HydroSteam 3618 or SmartMix 38572: which setup suits your spot cleaning?

Choose HydroSteam 3618 for an eligible steam-mode job and larger nominal tanks. Choose SmartMix 38572 when automatic formula mixing and a lighter-listed machine matter more. The practical compromise is preparation and carrying versus capacity, not a proven difference in stain removal.

The buying question

Is a steam-capable routine worth choosing over automatic formula preparation and a lighter-listed machine?

HydroSteam combines documented steam modes with larger tanks; SmartMix combines automatic mixing with a lower listed machine weight.

Quick verdict

When the recommendation changes
  • Your surface-care instructions rule out the cleaning method you planned to use.
  • Moving the machine matters more to you than its nominal tank capacity.

The differences that matter

Cleaning And Solution Preparation

BISSELL Little Green HydroSteam Pet Portable Carpet Cleaner 3618

Fill water and formula to the selected small- or large-area lines in the 3618 tank. Its modes are SteamWash, Steam and Wash; steam use adds a steam-ready wait and priming over a sink or bowl.[3]

Fill the 38572 water and formula compartments separately. Deep Clean automatically mixes them; Rinse dispenses water only.[4, 5]

What this changes: Choose by the routine you want: the 3618 offers documented steam modes, while SmartMix removes manual ratio preparation and provides a water-only selector. SmartMix still requires filling; neither workflow establishes faster cleaning.[3, 4, 5]

Tank And Carry Logistics

BISSELL Little Green HydroSteam Pet Portable Carpet Cleaner 3618

Listed clean/dirty tank capacities: 64/51 oz; listed machine weight: 13 lb.[1]

BISSELL Little Green Max Pet SmartMix Portable Carpet Cleaner 38572

Listed clean/dirty tank capacities: 32/32 oz; listed machine weight: 8.2 lb.[2]

What this changes: If moving the machine between storage and spots is your priority, SmartMix has the lower listed weight. HydroSteam offers larger nominal tanks. These figures do not measure filled carrying comfort, cleaned area, or trips to the sink.[1, 2]

Value and trade-offs

One or both observed offers have eligibility conditions, so no unrestricted price difference is shown.

Compare current offers against the workflow you will actually use. A higher price is hard to justify for capabilities that do not fit your surfaces or routine.

There is insufficient price history here for a buy-now or wait recommendation.

Limitations

  • No hands-on test or comparable independent test establishes stain removal, drying, reliability, setup time or area cleaned per fill.
  • Listed weights are not measured filled carrying loads. Steam is not suitable for every fabric or surface; follow the machine and surface instructions.
  • Manufacturer packages can vary; verify the seller’s exact model and carton contents.

Questions shoppers ask

Can I skip cleanup because SmartMix handles the formula?

No. The 38572 guide still calls for emptying and rinsing the dirty tank and rinsing tools. HydroSteam also requires dirty-tank care. Mixing automation is separate from cleanup.

Does the larger HydroSteam tank guarantee fewer interruptions?

No. Nominal tank size alone does not establish refill frequency or cleaned area; spraying and recovery during your task matter.
