Soundcore P31i vs P42i: Choose by ANC, Live Sound, Battery, and Value

P42i is the better feature-fit upgrade for buyers who will use its stronger ANC, Natural Mode, wireless charging and longer rated single-charge runtime. P31i remains the practical budget-tier choice for everyday ANC, translation and app features. Scarbir's same-method ANC comparison favors P42i, while calls, fit and sound still depend on environment, device and personal fit.

The buying question

Do P42i's stronger tested ANC, Natural Mode, softer-stem comfort and added charging features justify choosing it over P31i's budget-tier ANC and translation package?

P42i is the higher-tier feature fit with stronger same-method ANC evidence and live-sound features, while P31i covers everyday ANC, translation and app use at Soundcore's budget tier; neither supports a universal call or comfort winner.

Quick verdict

Choose Soundcore P31i Black (D1202; ASIN B0FNWCYLZN) if

  • You want Soundcore's budget-tier ANC and translation package for commuting or shared workspaces.
  • You do not need P42i's Natural Mode, wireless charging or higher-tier comfort and ANC features.
  • You are buying the exact black P31i ASIN and can verify the live seller and package before checkout.

Choose Soundcore P42i Black (D1205; ASIN B0GZYYKS41) if

  • You want the stronger same-method ANC result and better handling of constant and sudden noise in Scarbir's testing.
  • You will use Natural Mode for concerts, festivals or large sporting events.
  • You value longer rated single-charge use, wireless charging and the P42i stem finish.

When to skip: You need a standardized universal call, comfort or sound winner; the available evidence remains environment and method dependent. You need a confirmed historical low or Buy Now/Wait recommendation; the offer histories are short. You are comparing a different color, seller package or ASIN instead of B0FNWCYLZN and B0GZYYKS41.
When the recommendation changes
  • If the buyer mainly commutes or works in shared spaces and will not use Natural Mode or wireless charging, P31i's budget-tier feature set may be sufficient.
  • If the buyer attends concerts, festivals or games, P42i's official Natural Mode becomes a meaningful reason to choose it.
  • If wind calls, fit or side-sleeping comfort are decisive, use P42i's independent result as a signal and preserve a return option because the tests are not the same as a personal trial.
  • If the exact black seller, package or live offer changes, recheck the ASIN and included accessories; short offer history does not support timing advice.

Anc And Live Sound

Soundcore P31i Black (D1202; ASIN B0FNWCYLZN)

P31i has adaptive ANC rated up to 52 dB; RTINGS describes its ANC as decent for travel and shared environments but below flagship performance.[3, 7, 9]

Soundcore P42i Black (D1205; ASIN B0GZYYKS41)

P42i has adaptive ANC rated up to 55 dB, adds Natural Mode for concerts, festivals and big games, and Scarbir scores its ANC 18/20 versus P31i's 14/20 under the same review method.[4, 9]

What this changes: P42i is the evidence-backed fit for buyers prioritizing stronger ANC or live-event awareness features; the numerical manufacturer dB ratings are not a substitute for a standardized lab comparison.[9, 3, 4]

Battery And Fast Charge

Soundcore P31i Black (D1202; ASIN B0FNWCYLZN)

Calls And Translation

Soundcore P31i Black (D1202; ASIN B0FNWCYLZN)

P31i lists six AI-enhanced microphones and AI translation through the Soundcore app; RTINGS found its microphone clear in many settings but the result remains environment dependent.[3, 7]

Soundcore P42i Black (D1205; ASIN B0GZYYKS41)

P42i also lists six AI-enhanced microphones and app translation; Scarbir reports better voice clarity for P42i in wind, but does not establish universal call superiority across devices and noise conditions.[4, 9]

What this changes: P42i has the stronger conditional wind-call signal, while both models support translation and six-microphone call features; choose by actual call environment and preserve a return option.[7, 9]

P42i supports the same core app, LDAC/Hi-Res, multipoint and IP55 features and adds wireless charging, Natural Mode, Hearing Health and a softer stem finish; Scarbir reports three tip sets and an English manual.[4, 9]

What this changes: P42i is the feature-fit choice when wireless charging, live-mode controls or softer stems matter; P31i retains the core app and codec set and may fit buyers who do not need those additions.[3, 4, 9]

Calls and translation across environments

The better fit depends on your priorities

Both list six microphones and app translation; P42i has a positive wind-call result, but device, fit and background noise can change the outcome.

Current offer and package value

The better fit depends on your priorities

Both exact black ASINs are tracked in the catalog, but the better value depends on the live offer and the features the buyer will use.

Value and trade-offs

One or both observed offers have eligibility conditions, so no unrestricted price difference is shown.

Judge any live P42i offer gap against features the buyer will use: stronger tested ANC, Natural Mode, wireless charging, softer stems and longer rated single-charge life versus P31i's budget-tier core feature set.

The available offer observations are short and cannot support a definite Buy Now or Wait recommendation. Recheck the exact black ASIN, seller, stock and package before purchase.

Is the upgrade worth it?

Worth considering if

  • buyers who will use stronger ANC in travel or noisy spaces
  • buyers attending concerts, festivals or large games
  • buyers who value wireless charging or softer stems
  • buyers who need longer intervals between charges
View Soundcore P42i Black (D1205; ASIN B0GZYYKS41) on AmazonPaid link

Skip the upgrade if

  • the buyer mainly needs budget-tier ANC, translation and app controls
  • the buyer will not use Natural Mode or wireless charging
  • the live offer gap is large relative to the features the buyer will actually use
  • fit and call quality cannot be tested through a return-friendly purchase

Limitations

  • No hands-on testing was performed for this comparison.
  • Soundcore's official sources do not explicitly call P42i the direct successor to P31i; the article uses a same-family higher-tier upgrade framing.
  • The official exact P31i page located is UK regional; US black ASIN identity comes from the current Pickoryx catalog and the US buying guide.
  • RTINGS tested a blue P31i variant, so its exact-model results do not constitute an exact-black-ASIN lab result.
  • Scarbir's bilateral ANC score is one independent review method; it does not establish universal sound, comfort or call superiority.
  • Manufacturer battery and ANC dB ratings use stated conditions and are not a shared laboratory comparison.
  • Offer histories are short and do not support a historical-low or Buy Now/Wait conclusion.
  • Guidance applies to Soundcore ASIN B0FNWCYLZN in Black and ASIN B0GZYYKS41 in Black; another color, seller or bundle may differ.
  • Natural Mode is a manufacturer audio feature, not a certified hearing-protection rating; check suitable hearing protection for hazardous live-event levels.

Questions shoppers ask

Is Soundcore P42i worth upgrading from P31i?

It is worth considering when you will use P42i's stronger tested ANC, Natural Mode, wireless charging, softer stems or longer rated single-charge life. Stay with P31i when budget-tier ANC, translation and app controls cover your needs and the added features would go unused.

Which has stronger ANC, P31i or P42i?

Scarbir's same scoring method gives P42i 18/20 ANC points and P31i 14/20. Soundcore's manufacturer ratings are 55 dB for P42i and 52 dB for P31i, but those dB figures are not a standardized lab ranking.

Do both models support translation and calls?

Yes. Both exact model pages list six AI-enhanced microphones and AI translation through the Soundcore app. Scarbir reports better P42i voice clarity in wind, but call results remain device and environment dependent.

Which has longer battery life?

Soundcore rates P42i for up to 12 hours per earbud and 56 hours with its case, versus 10 and 50 hours for P31i. In ANC-on figures, Soundcore lists 8.5 and 40 hours for P42i versus 8 and 40 hours for P31i.
