PRO X or Cloud III Wired: Moving Between PCs and Reaching the Controls

Choose PRO X for carrying a saved EQ between PCs with its USB DAC. Choose Cloud III Wired for earcup volume and mute controls if configuring each PC separately is acceptable. This is a setup choice, not a sound-quality ranking.

The buying question

Which fits your setup: EQ that travels between PCs, or earcup controls?

PRO X carries a saved EQ in its included DAC and uses inline controls; Cloud III puts controls on the earcup but does not carry NGENUITY settings to another system.

Quick verdict

When the recommendation changes
  • If you use only one PC, control placement may matter more than EQ portability.
  • If you use an analog connection, do not count on the PRO X DAC-based EQ benefit.

The differences that matter

Eq Portability Between Pcs

Logitech G PRO X Wired (Black, 981-000817)

Save EQ through G HUB to the included USB DAC; that EQ can then be used on another PC without G HUB.[1]

HyperX Cloud III Wired (Black, 727A8AA)

NGENUITY settings for Cloud III wired are not stored on the USB headset and do not persist to another system.[3]

What this changes: Choose PRO X if you need your configured EQ to travel between PCs with the DAC. With Cloud III, plan to configure the destination PC instead.[1, 3]

Physical Control Placement

Logitech G PRO X Wired (Black, 981-000817)

Volume and mute are on the included PC cable.[2]

HyperX Cloud III Wired (Black, 727A8AA)

Volume and mute are on the earcup; HyperX also documents a microphone mute LED.[4]

What this changes: Choose the reach you prefer: a cable control for PRO X, or the headset itself for Cloud III. Neither layout is established here as faster or easier for everyone.[2, 4]

The better fit depends on your priorities

Best for your routine

Reaching the headset rather than an inline cable

Based on listed features, not comparative testing.

Cloud III places volume and mute on its earcup. Accept the separate-PC settings setup if you move between systems.

Value and trade-offs

One or both observed offers have eligibility conditions, so no unrestricted price difference is shown.

An extra cost for PRO X should be justified by your need for portable EQ or inline controls. An extra cost for Cloud III should be justified by your preference for earcup controls.

Insufficient price history is available to make a purchase-timing recommendation.

Limitations

  • These are the original wired Black models, not PRO X Wireless, PRO X 2, PRO X SE, Cloud III Wireless or Cloud III S.
  • No hands-on or controlled comparative tests were performed. Sound, microphone quality, comfort and durability are not ranked.
  • PRO X EQ portability described here is between PCs through the supplied DAC, not a promise for every console, mobile device or analog connection.
  • The Cloud III mute LED is manufacturer-described; its behavior on every possible connection path was not tested.

Questions shoppers ask

Does every PRO X audio setting travel with the DAC?

No. The saved-EQ feature does not carry Blue VO!CE or DTS processing. Those still require G HUB and the DAC on PC.

Does Cloud III Wired still have software support?

Yes. HyperX lists it for NGENUITY and Legacy on Windows. The absence of hardware-carried settings is a separate limitation; it does not mean the headset lacks software configuration.
