TempPro TP17 vs MEATER Plus: Choose the Readout and Probe Setup

Choose TP17 for a local LCD and two wired probes you can place separately. Choose MEATER Plus for phone-based monitoring with a cable-free probe, accepting its app, account and charging routine. MEATER’s two sensors measure food and ambient temperature in one probe; they are not two food probes.

The buying question

Do you want a local display or phone-based monitoring, and do you need two independently placed food probes or one probe measuring food and its surroundings?

TP17 provides a standalone LCD with two wired probes. MEATER Plus removes the probe cable but uses a charging dock, compatible phone app and account, with one dual-sensor probe.

Quick verdict

Choose MEATER Plus Honey if

  • You prefer checking the cook in the MEATER app.
  • One food probe with a separate ambient sensor suits your cooking setup.
When to skip: Skip MEATER Plus if you do not want the required app and account. Skip MEATER Plus for food too small to cover its safety notch or for use during searing.
When the recommendation changes
  • You need simultaneous readings from two separate foods.
  • You do not want to use a phone app and account.
  • The food cannot accommodate MEATER’s required insertion past the safety notch.

The differences that matter

Standalone Display Or App Workflow

TempPro TempTrack PLUS TP17

Wired probes connect to the LCD unit, which has physical controls and audible alarms. TempPro explicitly describes TP17 as standalone with no app.[1, 2]

MEATER Plus Honey

The cable-free probe communicates through Bluetooth with its dock and the MEATER app. The current pairing guide requires a MEATER Cloud account and a network-connected phone for setup.[6, 4]

What this changes: Choose local controls if that is the routine you want. Choose MEATER’s phone workflow if you accept device compatibility, pairing and charging requirements; no wireless-range or connection-reliability advantage is established.[1, 2, 6, 4]

The better fit depends on your priorities

Two Food Probes Or One Dual Sensor Probe

TempPro TempTrack PLUS TP17

Two separate wired probes can monitor two foods, or one food and the oven or grill environment.[1, 2]

MEATER Plus Honey

The Plus package contains one probe and one charging dock. Its two sensors measure internal food temperature and ambient temperature from that single probe.[4, 3]

What this changes: For two independently placed food readings, TP17 supplies the required two probes. MEATER’s dual-sensor label does not mean two foods can be monitored with the single supplied probe.[1, 2, 4, 3]

The better fit depends on your priorities

Best for your routine

Monitoring two separate foods with the supplied probes

Best fit: TempPro TempTrack PLUS TP17

Based on listed features, not comparative testing.

TP17 includes two independently placed wired probes. The selected MEATER Plus package provides one food probe, even though it contains two sensors.

Keeping monitoring on a local display

Best fit: TempPro TempTrack PLUS TP17

Based on listed features, not comparative testing.

TP17 provides its own screen, buttons and alarms without an app. Keep the display outside the oven and route the probe cables as instructed.

Using a phone to follow one food probe

Best fit: MEATER Plus Honey

Based on listed features, not comparative testing.

MEATER Plus uses a cable-free probe and app workflow. Choose it when one probe is sufficient and you accept the account, compatible device and charging requirements.

Value and trade-offs

One or both observed offers have eligibility conditions, so no unrestricted price difference is shown.

If MEATER Plus costs more in current offers, justify it with the phone workflow and removal of the food-probe cable. Paying more does not establish more accurate readings or better cooking.

There is not enough price history here for a buy-now or wait recommendation.

Limitations

  • Neither thermometer was tested hands-on. No accuracy, wireless range, connection reliability, finish-time prediction or food-safety winner is established.
  • The TP17 instructions are dated December 2025. The currently linked MEATER Plus safety sheet has no clear publication date; the Plus support guide was updated June 2025 and pairing guide August 2026. Their original access dates are retained.
  • MEATER’s manufacturer pages conflict on dishwasher suitability. This comparison does not recommend dishwasher cleaning. Confirm the instructions for your probe with MEATER.
  • App requirements can change. Apple’s current compatibility field requires iOS 16.4, although older description and support text still say iOS 14. Check your device’s current store listing before buying; this article does not promise compatibility with every phone.

Questions shoppers ask

Can TP17 also monitor the cooker instead of a second food?

Yes. Its documented options include one probe for food and another for oven or grill temperature. MEATER’s ambient sensor therefore is not an exclusive ability to monitor the cooking environment; the distinction is how its sensors are arranged in one probe.

Is ThermoPro TP17 a different comparison because this page says TempPro?

The manufacturer confirms its name change to TempPro, and the current TP17 page says packaging can still show the earlier brand. Check TP17 and the two-probe package; do not substitute the four-probe TP17H.

Does the current MEATER app require an account?

Yes. The current MEATER Plus pairing guide explicitly requires a MEATER Cloud account. It also calls for a compatible phone and network connection during setup, so an older account-free description is not a safe purchasing assumption.

Methodology and sources

Compared where readings and alerts appear, how many foods the supplied probes can monitor, and the setup and care each requires. Kept sensor counts separate from probe counts.

AI helped organize the source material and draft this comparison. Neither thermometer was tested hands-on.
